Las ventanas siempre son miradas indiscretas. Con ellas oteamos nuestro entorno como un naturista observa a los animales. A modo de sociólogos, miramos a nuestro alrededor. Oteamos nuestros entornos a la busca de nada, solo por el placer de mirar sin ser casi vistos. Es humano, nos guste o no.
Y esta fotografía del alemán Herbert List es eso: mirar, pero añadiendo un espejo que lo hace más sugerente, incluso me atrevería a decir más lascivo. Son nuestros vecinos, sí, y queremos saber de sus vidas reflejadas en ese espejo, el cual genera más irrealidad, ya que es una proyección de lo que hay fuera y nos permite aún más escondernos de otros ojos inquisidores que seguramente mirarán mucho más allá de su entorno inmediato.
Herbert List es un fotógrafo que trabajó para la revista de moda Vogue, pero al que también le gustaba hacer sus pinitos artísticos en otras disciplinas como el paisaje o el retrato. Jugaba también con el surrealismo, lo que le llevaba a mundos oníricos cargados de simbolismo.
Hoy os traigo una de sus obras que podríamos decir básica, pero con una intensidad aplastante donde nuestra mente juega con las interpretaciones, siempre caprichosa, porque nuestra mente es eso, caprichosa. He de deciros que desconocía a este fotógrafo, pero por mera casualidad, digamos que he copiado su idea desde el desconocimiento de su existencia. Si pinchas aquí, verás de qué os estoy hablando.
Windows are always indiscreet gazes. Through them, we survey our surroundings like a naturalist observes animals. In the manner of sociologists, we look around us. We scan our environments in search of nothing, just for the pleasure of looking without being almost seen. It's human, whether we like it or not.
And this photograph by the German Herbert List is that: looking, but adding a mirror that makes it more suggestive, I would even dare to say more lascivious. They are our neighbors, yes, and we want to know about their lives reflected in that mirror, which generates more unreality, since it is a projection of what is outside and allows us even more to hide from other inquisitive eyes that will surely look far beyond their immediate surroundings.
Herbert List was a photographer who worked for the fashion magazine Vogue, but who also liked to dabble artistically in other disciplines such as landscape or portraiture. He also played with surrealism, which led him to dreamlike worlds laden with symbolism.
Today I bring you one of his works that we could call basic, but with a crushing intensity where our mind plays with interpretations, always capricious, because our mind is just that, capricious.
