What is it about black and white images that introduces us to the world of nostalgia despite not having even the slightest hint of having lived through those bygone eras? It is what great artists have innate in their being, playing with us and making us travel where they want; they manipulate us in an exemplary way, but blessed manipulation.
The image has an advertising profile since its author Elliott Erwitt worked in that field and this image seems more like a press advertisement for a certain cream than an artistic photograph (it reminds me a lot of an advertisement from here in Spain from my childhood which I loved; it was about some beautiful women, lying on the beach, moving their legs to the rhythm of a song that said: The Sun warms with Coppertone).
This image of some "young ladies" lying in the sun in Saint Tropez, France, on one of its most sought-after coasts, is at least original and at the same time somewhat rebellious, since they are all turned around, taking in the Mediterranean sun, which bathes their backs except for one, who breaks the synchronized harmony, as if it were a dance troupe, interfering in the narration of the image, which, and it must be said, walks diagonally, which seems more like the photographer's furtiveness when stealing that moment than anything else, and is, from my point of view, unreal, since it is a photograph that is prepared to be this way. However, it cuts a fetish with some umbrellas that for many people means the end of the lower extremities such as the feet.
I like this photograph without giving it the greatest importance.
