I kneel before the staging and the art that Socialist Realism contained. I idolize it, I applaud it and I admire it in a militant and passionate way, let's say. Art at the service of something, of an idea, of a goal, of a perhaps beautiful dream that humanity was heading towards.

I don't want to be a nerd at this point in my life, but I feel very nostalgic for that cultural/artistic factory that socialism represented in Eastern Europe.

On the other hand, this photograph seems to me to be at least curious and beautiful. A large window open to the world, but with the coat of arms of the German Democratic Republic in front, that is, the world seen through... where before reaching that, an immensity of lamps like stars, and as if it were a journey through the cosmos, leads us to the light marking the path that invites us to discover the world that opens before us. That galaxy of lamps/stars of light bulbs that barely illuminate but decorate made us feel like we were in another world, on another more habitable planet and that, despite the prevailing chaos of that planet, an unavoidable mathematical order reigns.

Today, the Palace of the Republic in East Berlin has disappeared from the face of the earth with the excuse that asbestos had rotted it (how many buildings have not been saved from this when there was a need to do so). The pickaxe has destroyed a great work of art inside and out, a contemporary work of the people and for the people, but it was necessary to get rid of what was politically inconvenient for the prevailing system.

Let this text serve as an ode to a glorious past that no longer exists.

I can not help showing this marvel of construction dedicated to cinema (which is how I like to call my movies). This, although some may surprise you, it was built by one of the countries that were in the "axis of evil " The German Democratic Republic, for the use and enjoyment of the people in this impulse of culture, or that lighthouse, which was the GDR for all of Europe.
of simple construction anchored in socialist realism that as you know was mostly practical because it is square that as you know also everything fits the wonders and spaces have a hundred percent utilization. The light (and the darkness) is fundamental for the cinema so the building combines beautiful windows where the light picks up the attendants, heats them and lets them see another projection just in the opposite direction of their screen, the Cinema of life, the cinema of everyday , of men and women with their reality, in short the cinema of now in contrast to the other showcase which shows us timeless fictitious worlds of dreaming of the directors and their way of approaching the world.
Because of this when you pay and enter this building you face that duality of reality and fiction, and those that are there are located in the red line that separates these two "realities " as a spectator, oblivious to everything and everyone.

How many things you have not seen the Brandenburg Gate, but for me there are two very important; One the end of the Second World War and the conquest of Berlin by the glorious Soviet Army, and the creation of the state of the workers and peasants, ie the GDR. This was a beautiful and utopian dream, but in turn was the daughter of her time and the defensive needs of the two big blocks faced today sadly disappeared the socialist bloc. That door that gives us the entry of German, Intergerman, European and global Center to understand this world today so complex.

#fotografía #berlín #alemanía : 1089 - agujas

#syndicate#art
