#FOTOGRAFÍA - Vivir a espaldas de la muerte por Thomas Höpker + #PHOTOGRAPHY - Living with our backs turned to death by Thomas Höpker

This photograph by Thomas Höpker, "living with our backs turned to death", is a true reflection of the society of our time. It does not need to be captured in an image, we see it every day in the world around us and in the human beings who also do it.

But let us not forget that this photograph also puts us in the context of the prevailing social postmodernism of those who call themselves having no land to go to or feel and are citizens of the world, who, let us not forget, see this as a spectacle, turning their backs on the existing human calamities.

And here we see it, while a part of the world burns, some young people with surely important social success are oblivious to the world they observe and if they observe it is only because it is out of the monotonous script of every day. They are doing their thing, their snobbish things, easy fame and quick money while in the opposite scenario people die.

If I have to pigeonhole this image into any artistic movement it would be hyperrealism (unpleasant and obscene).

Me gusta.

Who could have thought that such a wonderful mind as Thomas Höpker's would be extinguished this 2024 by Alzheimer's. That's life and we have to accept it even reluctantly.

Copacabana Beach in 1961 was already attractive to the citizens of cold Europe (for many reasons, including the carnal), and this photograph enhances this beauty even more. It seems like any other afternoon in Rio de Janeiro where people, few people, bathe in the middle of what seems to be a storm of strong winds and intense waves, but it doesn't seem to matter to the Cariocas who, distracted by their bath, remain there as a religious and protest act. "We are Cariocas and we defend our right to understand life in our own way," they seem to say.

It is a ghostly image due to the mist produced by the fog and the volatile beach sand that produces an exfoliating effect when it hits their bodies (something that I like) but that gives this photograph a special touch of nostalgia for one of the best decades of humanity, the sixties.

I like it
